Presenting the RIPPLE OF HOPE U.N. Modernization Project
As the situation in Sudan has made clear, under its current charter, the United Nations has proven itself unable to prevent or stop ethnic cleansing and genocide. Therefore, we've assembled a panel of contributors with the hope that an intelligent, spirited discussion will produce concrete ideas to update the U.N. Charter and correct this systemic and moral failure. In the spirit of recent Security Council resolutions, initially this will be a 30-day effort. Recognizing that it's too late to change the United Nations in ways that will effect the present, our goal is to recommend changes that could prevent another Rwanda or Sudan a decade from now. Click here to follow the discussion, and feel free to comment on the various posts.

What amazes me is that it took so long for you to figure out the UN is 'unable to prevent or stop ethnic cleansing and genocide', the organization was built and founded on principles of peace. Pacifism is appalled by murderous acts but presents no solutions, how can a body such as the UN do anything save hand wring and issue toothless resolutions.
The problem with the UN lies in the lack of willingness on the part of its members, and this includes the US, to enforce its resolutions. We are more than willing to cite UN resolutions as justification for war in Iraq yet hold disdain for those resolutions pointed at Israel. Other member nations see the UN not as a unifying body for good but as a body whose value lies in opposing the lone superpower in the world.
This is all said against the backdrop of the biggest scandal to emerge from the desert of Iraq, the truth of the malfeasance that was the Oil for Food program.
